Born in Mar del Plata, Argentina, in 1972. He obtained a degree from the M. Malharro School of Visual Arts and later received grants from the Antorchas Foundation to further his studies in Buenos Aires. In 2001 he founded MOTP, an alternative exhibition space that was crucial to the development of the arts scene in his home city.
Amadeo Azar’s work has been shown in several Latin American countries, including recently in The Open Session program at Drawing Center NY, exhibitions at A Gentil Carioca Gallery in Rio de Janeiro, Jacobo Karpio Gallery in San José de Costa Rica; Recoleta Cultural Center, Fortabat Art Collection and National Endowment for the Arts in Buenos Aires, as well as in Spain and the US. It is in important private collections in these regions. He has received several awards in Argentina, the most recent being the Premio Bienal Banco Nación in 2012.
